Our Annual Appeal Letter (Click link to open as a pdf)

The Kendall Young Library relies on the wonderful support we receive from our community. If you are interested in helping to support the mission of the Library there are many ways to participate.

Donations can be accepted in many forms including farm land, property, insurance, stocks or bonds. A deferred gift by means of a will is also an option. All gifts other than cash are subject to the approval of the Library Board of Trustees. For questions concerning a gift, please contact the Library Director at (515) 832-9100 or director@kylib.org.

Monetary Donations

Monetary contributions from individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations help the Library maintain and expand collections, services, and programs.  Monetary gifts are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.  If you choose to give your donation in honor or memory of someone, we are happy to send notification of your gift.

Donate Online

The Enhance Hamilton County Foundation (an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines) administers funds on behalf of the library.  You will be redirected to the Community Foundation’s website when donating online to support the Kendall Young Library.  You can choose from 4 funds:

General Fund

Contributions to the General Fund support all areas of library operation including programming, staffing, building repairs, and technology.  Your donation to this fund is much appreciated and will be applied to the area of greatest current need.

Collection Fund

This fund supplements the library’s collection of materials including audiobooks, eBooks, Large Print books, Children’s books, Young Adult books, Adult books, and DVDs.    You may specify an area of the collection in the “Special Instructions” on the online donation form.  You may also give your donation in honor or memory of someone and choose whether to have a book plate added to the item(s).

Local History Preservation Fund

The Kendall Young Library has an extensive Genealogy/Local History collection that supports research into the history of Hamilton County and its people.  Resources include a photo collection, church histories, census records, historical scrapbooks, funeral home records, and local newspapers on microfilm.  Donations to this fund help to preserve these materials in the library and to make local history information available online via the Digital Archives of Hamilton County.

Community Endowment

Contributions to our Community Endowment help ensure that the Kendall Young Library continues its standard of excellence for future generations.  Gifts to the Foundation’s permanent endowment increase the amount of income available for future library projects.  Donations to our Community Endowment Fund are eligible for a 25% Endow Iowa Tax credit, in addition to regular federal tax benefits.  (Click here for more information about the Endow Iowa Tax credit.)
